Blindfold World Landspeed Record
On the 28th of October 2005 James Don attempted the Blindfold World Land-speed
Record to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
The attempt has over-come many set-backs and the road to Elvintgon was never an
easy one, Friday morning saw not such good weather with light but persistant rain and
the airfield was wet and windy, the attempt was delayed till 12:00pm when a dry line
started to clear down the middle of the airfield. the first attempts saw average speeds of
about 156Mph short of the 167 required, the strong winds were holding the 500Bhp
200Mph Ascari at bay.

After 8 attempts the best attempt was lodged at an average of 166.70Mph across a mile,
just half a mile per hour off the required speed but it became apparent that the winds
needed to die down before the car would go any faster as the average speeds were all
in the 160-165mph region.

We broke for lunch and prayed for the wind to die down, but alas it was not to happen
James went back out at 4pm and tried again but the average speeds were all in the region
of 160Mph as the winds grew stronger.

Thanks to Ascari, all our sponsors, all the media who have helped us and followed the
story, and a huge shout out to Matt and Danny from Champion and Ferodo who worked
so hard to get the event organised inside just 2 weeks, a real credit to their abilies.

As for next year we will have to see what happens but suffice is to say James is bitterly
dissapointed to be so close to the record and wouldbnt say no at the chance to do it all
again.
